South Yarra's great author: Gideon Haigh

I’m at south yarra cricket club. http://4sq.com/cORGHs

Funny how a single tweet takes your mind away to a club in Melbourne, a great book about that club, the author of that book and all the other great books and articles about cricket you’ve read by this author: Gideon Haigh.

Go out and get his work. My personal favorite, “The Mystery Spinner”.

Confessions of faith on Twitter

Sachin Tendulkar reached another pinnacle yesterday, by becoming the first batsman to make 200 runs in an ODI. This great performance by ‘The little master’ led to an outburst of joy on Twitter, where Sachin Tendulkar is a trending topic even a day later.

And as always with Tendulkar, references to God are never far away. A short selection of the many confessions of faith I found on Twitter:

Reducing the number of atheists in India since 1989 – Sachin Tendulkar!

I finally know what godreally looks like!! He is about 5″5, maharashtrian and plays cricket!!

I do believe in God. Has anyone ever seen a mortal hit 200 runs in ODI?

GOD is an understatement for SACHIN TENDULKAR..

Tendulkar is GOD..

What’s the difference between God n Sachin Tendulkar??? Godcould neva bat like Sachin…. Hats off!!!

God disguised as Sachin Tendulkar.

I dont know how god bats but I have seen SACHIN RAMESHTENDULKAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cricket is my religion and Tendulkar is my GOD… have two hundred rupee note printed with Tendulkar on it

I hear God appeared at Gwalior today in the form of Sachin Tendulkar. Wish I was there!

Craig Kieswetter hit 143 in 123 balls on his debut for the England senior team. So he is the next in a line of debutants making a great impression on his first outing. Nothing new there.

However, did anyone else notice that with Kieswetter in the squad, Engeland now have three South African-born batsmen with German-like surnames in their squad?

Everything you do makes it easy to fall in love with you

Cricketers are easier to fall in love with than any other sportsmen. It is do with the amount of time they are on TV. While footballers and rugby players get only an hour and a half in front of the cameras, the length of a cricket series flushes out the characters, imperfections and nuances of our men in white.
